Prince Edward Island Issues New Invitations to Skilled Workers

Prince Edward Island held its fifth Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw of the year last week, issuing a new round of Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residency.

Details of the May 15 Draw

On May 15, the PEI PNP invited a total of 168 candidates under the Labour Impact and Express Entry categories. These invitations targeted professionals working in key sectors that contribute significantly to the island’s economy.

2025 Nomination Limits Affect Draws

Like many provinces in Canada, Prince Edward Island received a reduced number of nomination spaces for 2025. The total allocation for the year is 1,025 nominations. So far, PEI has issued 569 invitations, all through the Labour Market and Express Entry streams.

Due to this limited allocation, the province is focusing its immigration efforts on applicants in high-demand industries such as:

  • Healthcare
  • Trades
  • Manufacturing

At the same time, the province has noted that workers in sales and service jobs may not be considered for invitations under current priorities.

About the Labour Impact Category

The Labour Impact Category under the PEI PNP helps foreign nationals who have secured full-time, permanent job offers from employers in PEI to become permanent residents of Canada. It is designed to fill labor gaps in the province and includes three streams:

1. Skilled Worker Stream

2. Critical Worker Stream

3. International Graduate Stream

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be between 21 and 59 years old
  • Have enough funds to settle in PEI
  • Hold a job offer from an eligible PEI employer
  • Meet a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of 4

Understanding the Application Process

Before receiving an invitation, candidates must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI), which simply shows they are interested in immigrating to PEI. If selected, they are issued an ITA and can then submit a full application for provincial nomination.

Applicants who are successfully nominated by PEI gain an additional 600 points in the federal Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), significantly boosting their chances of receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residency from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
