Manitoba Conducts First Provincial Nominee Draw in August

This week, Manitoba invited more skilled workers to apply for a provincial nomination through the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). The invitations were issued to candidates who met criteria such as skilled work experience, competitive scores, and involvement in targeted strategic recruitment initiatives.

Draw Details
On August 7, Manitoba held Expression of Interest (EOI) Draw #251 under both the Skilled Worker in Manitoba and Skilled Worker Overseas streams. In total, 37 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) were sent to foreign nationals.

To qualify for this round, candidates needed:

  • A minimum score of 724 on the MPNP’s points system
  • A direct invitation from the MPNP through a strategic recruitment initiative

Among the 37 recipients, seven had valid Express Entry profile numbers and job seeker validation codes.

The MPNP highlighted that some candidates who met or exceeded the cut-off score may not have received an invitation due to reasons such as:

  • Providing an invalid or expired language test number in their EOI
  • Claiming a direct invitation under a strategic recruitment initiative but failing to include a valid invitation number

About Strategic Recruitment Initiatives
Strategic recruitment initiatives allow Manitoba to target and invite candidates with skills in high demand across the province. These programs often involve employer or community partnerships to fill labour shortages, while offering foreign workers a route to permanent residency.

Employers who wish to participate must follow Manitoba’s ABC Recruitment Process and meet specific requirements for their job openings. Once approved, they can submit details of potential candidates to Manitoba’s Employer Services. Candidates, in turn, must meet both the general eligibility requirements such as education, work experience, language skills, and age and the specific criteria of the stream they apply under.

The MPNP also evaluates whether candidates have stronger connections to another province or territory. Those deemed at risk of leaving Manitoba may face refusal from Employer Services or the MPNP. Each case is assessed individually.
