Newfoundland and Labrador Issues New Invitations to Provincial Immigration Candidates in Latest Draw

On July 29, Newfoundland and Labrador held its sixth immigration draw of the year, inviting candidates under both the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) and the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).

Draw Overview

In this round, the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism (OIM) issued a total of 150 invitations:

  • 100 invitations under the NLPNP
  • 50 invitations under the AIP

This draw marks the lowest number of total invitations issued by the province since it adopted the Expression of Interest (EOI) system earlier this year. While the number of AIP invitations stayed consistent with previous draws, there was a noticeable drop in NLPNP invitations compared to earlier rounds.

Nomination Allocations Remaining

  • For the Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP), the province has a total allocation of 2,050 nominations for 2025. That leaves 555 nomination spaces still available.
  • Under the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), the province’s allocation is 475 spaces, with 152 still open as of now.

How to Apply

Earlier this year in February, Newfoundland and Labrador switched from a first-come-first-served approach to an Expression of Interest (EOI) system for both NLPNP and AIP.

To be considered:

  1. Submit an EOI to the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism (OIM).
  2. Wait for an Invitation to Apply (ITA). These are issued in batches throughout the year.
  3. Only those who receive an ITA can proceed to apply for the NLPNP or be endorsed under the AIP.

The OIM selects candidates whose EOI profiles match the current labour market needs and the strategic priorities of the province.

Priority Sectors and In-Demand Jobs

Newfoundland and Labrador has highlighted certain industries where there is strong demand. Occupations in these priority sectors receive:

  • Exemptions from labour market testing
  • Faster processing times

The current priority sectors include:

  • Health Care
  • Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
  • Aquaculture
