Transition to New Immigration Leadership

Today’s draw is notable as the final Express Entry selection under the leadership of outgoing Immigration Minister Rachel Bendayan. Going forward, draws will be overseen by Canada’s newly appointed Minister of Immigration, Lena Metlege Diab.

Minister Diab’s appointment, announced on May 13, comes as part of a broader cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Mark Carney. Her leadership is expected to shape the future direction of Canadian immigration policy.

Among the key goals previously outlined by Prime Minister Carney are:

  • Maintaining new PR intake at 1% of Canada’s population by 2027;
  • Increasing the number of French-speaking immigrants;
  • Overhauling the Global Talent Stream to better attract high-skilled professionals;
  • Reducing the number of temporary residents, including work and study permit holders.

Additional details regarding Canada’s updated immigration strategy are anticipated in Minister Diab’s forthcoming mandate letter.
